Charcoal Vs. Gold - Process Gif

Description

I must apologize, I got too into the coloring process and didn't save quite as many in between process shots as I would have liked. :\

I'm much happier with the way the smoky explosions came out after adjusting their arrangement. They provide a much better sense as to where that lower light source is coming from now. I needed to break the smoke apart into about 6 layers to maximize the ease of rendering the lighting effects. There's about 57 layers over all that bring the final effect together. Still a bit much, though much better than the almost 200 layers my oldest pieces used to require.

This version of Godzilla is sort of a combination of the 90s and 60s versions. in the Showa era he had a much more fluid range of movement for his arms which allowed him to actually throw punches back in the day. While the 90s suit, to this day, is still one of the most aesthetically pleasing to me (even over the 2014 redesigns). The actors were much more restricted in how they could move forcing them into shooting matches and using ineffective body slams.

King Ghidorah is modeled more closely to the 90s suit design with few elements of the millennium era used for his horns. I've always had this idea as a kid that Ghidorah's whirring sound was produced by vibrations in his scales. I once saw a device that was designed to use special frequencies to force pest like insects and rodents out of your home through annoyance. I was never sure of its effectiveness but it sounded very similar to Ghidorah's whirring. I would love to see a version of him where this sound could drive people mad with terror. It would really solidify the concept of him being a creature of pure chaos.

Overall I'm happy with the end results. there are a few areas that I know I can improve on with some more practice and instruction for now I am satisfied. If any of you have any questions as to how I achieved some of effects in this piece just say the word and I'll look into doing a tutorial explaining the process.

The final version will be the first of my Paid for content on Patreon. I'll eventually release it out for the rest of the world to see though likely at a much smaller resolution.

Please help to support future releases of similar such works on Patreon. ^_~

As a special reward for my patrons I'll go into great depth explaining my process and will willingly pass my knowledge on to those who seek it out.
